Product Overview
The marine ballast water seawater electrolysis chlorination system is a core environmental protection equipment for marine ballast water management and treatment. Adopting advancedon-site seawater electrolysis chlorination technology, the system uses raw seawater from ship ballast pipelines as the medium and generates sodium hypochlorite disinfectant through electrolysis reaction without adding any chemical agents. It can efficiently eliminate marine organisms, pathogens, larvae and spores in ballast water.
Fully compliant with IMO Ballast Water Convention D-2 discharge standards and global port environmental regulations, the system features fully automatic operation, low energy consumption, zero chemical addition and high safety. It is widely applicable to bulk carriers, container ships, oil tankers, cruise ships and various marine engineering vessels, enabling green and compliant ballast water treatment for ocean-going ships.
1. System Process Principle
The system adopts an integrated process ofside-stream filtration pretreatment + on-site seawater electrolysis + online dosing disinfection + residual chlorine neutralization. It abandons traditional single treatment modes such as chemical dosing and UV sterilization, and generates disinfectant through natural seawater electrolysis to realize physical and chemical integrated purification of ballast water.
Working Principle: The system extracts a small amount of seawater from the main ballast pipeline as raw water for electrolysis. After removing suspended solids and large particle pollutants through precision filtration, the purified seawater flows into the electrolytic cell. Under the action of a DC electric field, chloride ions in seawater undergo electrochemical reaction to produce high-efficiency sodium hypochlorite disinfectant. The disinfectant is fully mixed with the mainstream ballast water to form a stable sterilizing environment, completely inactivating harmful aquatic organisms. Finally, residual chlorine is neutralized to make the effluent meet international discharge standards.
2. Complete Working Process
The entire treatment system operates continuously and automatically with no manual intervention required. The standardized workflow is as follows:
- Raw Water Extraction and Pre-Filtration: Extract side-stream seawater from the ship’s main ballast pipeline. The precision filter intercepts large impurities, marine sediments and macro plankton above 50μm, effectively protecting core electrolytic cell components and preventing equipment blockage.
- Automatic Electrolysis Reaction: The filtered clean seawater is delivered to the high-efficiency electrolytic cell. Stable electrochemical reaction is conducted through low-voltage DC electrolysis to generate high-purity sodium hypochlorite solution.
- Online Dosing and Sterilization: The electrolyzed sodium hypochlorite disinfectant is automatically injected back into the main ballast pipeline. Uniform mixing with ballast water forms a stable effective chlorine concentration, which thoroughly kills bacteria, plankton, larvae and spores in the water body.
- Real-Time TRO Water Quality Monitoring: Equipped with high-precision Total Residual Oxidant (TRO) sensors, the system dynamically monitors residual chlorine concentration in real time and automatically adjusts electrolysis power and dosing volume to ensure stable and qualified sterilization performance.
- Residual Chlorine Neutralization and Standard Discharge: During ballast water discharge, the neutralization unit automatically degrades excess residual chlorine in the water, ensuring the final effluent residual chlorine content is lower than 0.1mg/L, fully complying with IMO D-2 international discharge standards.
- Automatic System Cleaning and Standby: After operation, the equipment automatically completes pipeline flushing and overall self-cleaning, avoiding marine organism adhesion and scale deposition, and ensuring long-term stable operation.
3. Main Reaction Products and Environmental Performance
The entire electrolysis process relies only on natural components of seawater withzero external chemical addition. It is safe, eco-friendly and free of secondary pollution. The core reaction products and process characteristics are listed below:
- Core Effective Product: Sodium Hypochlorite (NaClO). With strong oxidizing property and broad-spectrum sterilization capability, it can destroy the cell structure and enzyme system of marine organisms and efficiently inactivate various harmful aquatic organisms and pathogenic bacteria.
- Reaction By-products: A small amount of hydrogen and oxygen generated during electrolysis are automatically discharged via the built-in degassing device without any harmful residues.
- Final Effluent State: After neutralization treatment, residual oxidants in ballast water are completely degraded. The discharged water contains no chemical residues, causes no damage to marine ecology, and meets environmental discharge requirements of global ports.
Core Reaction Formula: NaCl + H₂O → NaClO + H₂↑ (On-site electrolysis, instant generation and instant use, no risk of hazardous chemical storage)
